CANAL FULTON − W.S. Stinson Elementary School student Kamryn Alderman won Artsonia’s recent Artist of the Week contest for her age group.

Kamryn's artwork was selected based on a voting competition held on Artsonia.com , what the website says is the world’s largest collection of student art portfolios exhibiting more than 100 million pieces of artwork.

She received more than 800 online votes for her winning art titled, "Happy Hearts."

Kamryn is a fourth grader at Stinson in the Northwest Local School District. She was named Artist of the Week for March 19 to 25 in the fourth to sixth grade category.

“I enjoy learning new tricks and strategies about new and different projects,” she said in a news release from Artsonia.

“I was super happy, and it lifted me with amazement," she said of winning the contest.

Alderman’s art teacher is Jennifer Barnett.

“Having students recognized for their artistic achievements makes me so happy,” Barnett said. “I enjoy watching (students) explore, and expand, and discover their own artistic ideas and styles."

Barnett uses Artsonia to showcase student art, crowdsource lesson plans and fundraise for classrooms. Artsonia also allows family and friends of student artists to create and purchase custom keepsakes and then returns 20% of all revenue to the local art classroom, Artsonia said.

For its weekly contest, Artsonia selects 12 random submissions in each of four different age groups, from pre-kindergarten through high school. Voting is open to the public for several days before the winner is announced.
